Luc Therrien started this petition to Senator Marco Rubio and

The drinking age in America should be lowered to 18 years of age for many reasons. some of these reasons include but are not limited to being surrounded by it every day to being able to go to clubs at 18 years of age and being able to drive around at any time of day with no restrictions. However, many people do believe that the 21 law should apply to liquor but let 18-year-olds purchase beer and wines. Take most other countries for example, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), "...more than 65 percent of countries allow people 18 years or older to consume alcohol at a bar or restaurant." Even in countries such as Germany, Italy, and Austria, they have their drinking ages set to 16 AND DUIs and Drunk accidents are lower than here in the US and we have our drinking age at 21. Roughly 86 percent of 18-year-olds in the US have admitted to consuming alcohol at some point in their life as well.

people who are 18 able to vote and go to clubs and are treated as being independent adults, however, the idea of lowering the drinking age to 18 for beer and wine would bring to light people's limits while drinking and alcohol-related injuries in our great country as well. The United States is one of 11 other countries that have the drinking age at 21. Many countries that have the drinking age at 16-18 show less drinking-related injuries.

While there are many more reasons that I could use to support this cause, I fully understand there're 2 sides to every debate. I understand the risks and most other 18-year-olds understand as well. I hope I can bring this debate to light and get attention to this idea.
