Demands for Marco Rubio in Response to Mass Shootings

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

We've all seen the headlines: "Mass shooter takes lives of *insert number here* children at *insert school here* using an automatic or semi-automatic weapon". In just 6 years, 400 people have been killed in over 200 school shootings. Then Congress and the President sends their "condolences and prayers" for the victims and their families. But that's all they send. While children and adults alike are being slaughtered all across the state of Florida with high powered weapons, Sen. Marco Rubio has received $90,205 in campaign donations from gun rights groups during the 2015-2016 campaign cycle, and received an "A+" grade from the NRA. Rubio has recieved $3,303,355 from the NRA over the course of his career as an elected official. He also voted against limiting firearm magazine capacities. While he claims this most recent school shooting in Parkland, Fl to be a tragedy, he is doing nothing about it except taking money from a gun rights group. In a recent interview he claims, "gun violence is an ongoing discussion in Washington. A never-ending one"; a conversation he doesn't seem to be apart of, seeing as his attendance in the Senate is more than lackluster. Stop letting Marco Rubio sit back and enjoy the millions of dollars in donations from the NRA, all the while toting about how gun violence is a serious issue in Florida. This petition is to empower the citizens. Email your representative. Call your senators. DEMAND they take action.  While the topic of gun control that follows gun violence can be a polarizing one, the mass murdering of children should not be. This is not a petition to ban any guns. This is a petition to ensure our government actually DOES something this time. We must demand that our representatives stop sending their prayers, and start taking action. The only thing Sen. Rubio has done about mass shootings is take money and tweet about prayers. No more. He went as far to blame American culture in a live interview on TV after the most recent shooting, asking "Is it direction of our culture?" that is causing gun violence. The answer is no. It is the lack of actions taken by the U.S. Government in response to mass shootings such as these that allows for more children to die. How many children need to be murdered before the government bothers to change anything? Tell Sen. Rubio to stop blaming American culture and start blaming himself for the deficiency in meaningful conversation about gun violence. This is a list of demands for him, and the Florida legislature in general.

1. Demand Marco Rubio stop accepting donations from the NRA.

2. Tell Sen. Rubio to be apart of this “ongoing conversation in Washington” to ensure he is accurately representing the people of Florida and starts doing his job.

3. Donate money received from the NRA to the victims and their families of the Pulse shootings and Douglas shootings here in Florida.

4. Open up a conversation in Florida with the voters about gun violence and TAKE ACTION to prevent these tragedies in the future.

5. Although Sen. Rubio says mental health is a concern of his, make him follow through on his word. Tell congress and the Florida legislature that mental health needs to be a more widely addressed concern.

If you want your voice to be heard, listed below is Sen. Rubio's contact information. Also look up the contact information for your local representative, as they are just as important when it comes to initiating change.
