temporarily shut down Maple Leaf foods Brandon

We have started this petition to temporarily shut down Maple leaf foods inc. for a period of 2 weeks.  This would allow time for employees to be appropriately tested, and ensure only those with negatives tests return to the plant after shutdown.

As we have all seen on the news the last couple of days maple leaf foods has had an outbreak of positive Covid-19 cases that are multiplying by the day.  The plant has over 2,000 employees currently working, who are putting their life's at risk as well as those close to them and our community.

Brandon is a small community, with ML employees connected to not only our community, but the surrounding small towns such as Souris, Minnedosa, Neepawa and others where employees often commute into Maple Leaf for work.

Frankly,  BRHC is still ill-equipped to deal with a moderate outbreak with staff in many departments still not having access to appropriate PPE.  The smaller local hospitals even less so.  For the good of our communities it is imperative ML foods take PRO-active steps to contain this outbreak, even without the provinces involvement.

We are requesting the assistance of not just the general public, but the MB Nurses union, and all other unions to add their voices to UFCWs calls for a temporary shutdown.

Sincerely,

Concerned Community Members and Health Care Workers
