Maple Lane Playground Repairs

Maple Lane Playground Repairs
The Maple Lane Playground is a much-used amenity in our Sewickley neighborhood. The playground is very popular with children of all ages, including students at the nearby Montessori Children's Community, and visitors from all neighborhoods in Quaker Valley. However, it has fallen into disrepair over the past few years and is in desperate need of some critical repairs:
The wooden portions of the play structure have been heavily damaged by carpenter bees (whose aggressive behavior in the springtime frightens children and their caregivers). There are numerous large holes that need to be filled in, or the posts need to be replaced entirely.
The main gate is missing and the PVC fence is also missing a number of pickets and picket caps.
The ADA/accessible swing is damaged and not up to current code standards.
The rubber surfacing at the base of the slides, swings and monkey bars is disintegrating.
The first step of the structure is at an unsafe height for most children but especially for those under the age of four.
The plastic and metal parts of the play structure require pressure-washing and/or repainting.
The mulch that covers most of the surface area needs to be replaced. Weeds need to be removed.
The families who frequent this playground are willing to contribute financial support and manual labor in order for the repairs to be completed. However, we need assistance from the Borough in formalizing the project scope, schedule, budget and possible grant-writing. War Memorial Park and Chadwick Street Park are stellar examples of wonderful public play areas that help make Sewickley such a desirable place for families. Please help us transform the Maple Lane Playground into another beautiful space that our community can enjoy safely.
