Parel is a railway station on the Central Line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway, connecting Elphinstone Railway Station and serving the Parel neighbourhood of Mumbai. The next station south is Currey Road; the next station north is Dadar. A footbridge links Parel on the Central Line to Prabhadevi(elphinstone) on the Western Line.
Parel railway station (not to be confused with Lower Parel railway station) has only one foot over-bridge (FOB) on the southern side of the platform. This creates problems for commuters during peak hours. Due to this, commuters used to cross the tracks on to the adjoining platform 3 and use the FOB of that platform. This prompted the Railway's to put up a fence between the platforms in order to stop commuters from crossing the tracks. This has increased the pressure on the over-bridge even more. Every single second of pick hour is like a tickling time bomb.
Parel is a very busy and small station, it has big MNC offices in it's neighbourhood where million of people works. Most of the people among them are daily commuters. It's so scary to see women, children and elderly people using the one small and old bridge yelling for help everyday and using the same without any other option.
We request the concerned authorities to take immediate action and start the construction work of foot over bridge as soon as possible before another disaster happens.
