Help us convince the Council not to sell our park...pleeeeease

The Manningham Council recently purchased a large block of existing open space land to make the existing park bigger and now want to sell our local park to help pay for it. If our park is sold it will be developed and lost forever. Our park was chosen despite the recommendations of the Manningham Open Space Advisory Committee's recommendation of retaining our park. Of concern is that in the 25 year history of the Committee this is the first time that Council have decided to sell a park without the support of the resident members of the Committee. Our park, Tatterson Reserve has been a public open space park since land in the historical Hemingway Estate was first subdivided over 30 years ago and is situated just around the corner from the Heritage listed Jenkins Homestead which has stood for over 140 years. For some, walking from home to this park and home again is all they can manage. If this park is sold it will deny them access to any open space which they currently rely on for their daily, if not regular exercise. The park is much loved by local residents and its where we have seen our children play and grow over the years. We also want to see future generations use and enjoy the park. It has also been a place of solace for some of us over the years. To make things worse a family with 2 young children recently bought the house next door to the park. The parents went through the normal legal process and within a few weeks of moving in, the Council put up Notices of their intention to sell the park. I know there are things out there many times worse than our situation but isn't everything that's worth saving, worth saving? Even the little things...That's all we're trying to do. You can also visit our Facebook page by searching Save Tatterson Reserve on the Facebook website. So please help us if you can and thanks!
