Odd to want to take away decent paying jobs in the north. Very short sighted on the govts behalf

The closing of a profitable Liquor Mart is very short sighted by the MLCC especially since the return of rail service will bring the cost of supply down which will increase profit. This Liquor Mart services not only the communities residents but also the 10’s of thousands of guests that arrive here every day as independent and group tourists. Churchill has been voted is one of the top 10 places to visit in the world and the MLCC wants to downgrade their service instead of seeing the potential growth. This closure will put undue hardship on the community and businesses as a whole for no real reason. The Churchill Liquor Mart has been and still is making a profit! They have never not made a profit even without the Nunavut shipments.

Our Liquor Mart sells approximately $1million per year locally with only 5 employees. Did you know that the MLCC claims losing over $1million of sales from Nunavut which are now being shipped from Winnipeg however the work to process those sales is still being handled by the Churchill location staff? YES that is right! The Churchill Liquor Mart is still responsible to handle all the requests and sales, payments, et cetera and then send the order to Winnipeg for shipping. Winnipeg takes credit for all of those Nunavut sales because the product is being shipped from there. How is that fair? I believe it is a blatant attempt to make it LOOK like Churchill has lost over a million dollars of revenue. (Think about it! The real estate agent still gets credit for the sale of the house even though they don’t build or deliver it. Why are we allowing our local Liquor Mart not to get the credit of a million plus dollars of sales to Nunavut they process just because they don’t ship it?)

Give credit where credit is due to the hard working MLCC staff IN Churchill. They have worked tirelessly to ensure remaining profitable and making sure the Nunavut sales are still processed professionally even though their work goes unrecognized.

Please show your support of these workers and Churchill Liquor Mart by signing the petition no matter where you are from. If you visited us and enjoyed a beverage please sign so our new visitors can do the same.

This community needs as much job support as they can get! I’ve been luck to have had the chance to experience this remote community a few times and needs as much support as it can get!
