Why this petition matters

Started by Helen Van Cleef

Manhattan College has not done enough to support racial equality in New York. While racial inequality is a problem all over the country and the world, Manhattan College is based in the Bronx and would work locally before moving outwards in order to make the most impact. With one of our buildings, Kelly Commons, being named after Ray Kelly, an NYPD police commissioner, who helped spread the use of the racially biased Stop and Frisk procedure, our school must do better. Not only should the building be renamed, but the school must show support to these protesters financially. We must do better not just for the students but for our community and the entire nation. That is why Manhattan College needs to donate to the NYC bail fund for protesters. Our school will not be on the wrong side of history.
