6 Out Of 10 Indian Men Commit Domestic Violence, Says UN (see reference link below)

India has domestic violence (dv) in 70% households (courtesy Satyamev Jayathe). That's a huge number of women suffering from complex trauma, silently, in the absence of support. That's worrisome.

Besides the victim blaming  & victim shaming normalized in our patriarchal society, friends, family members & many therapists also, quite often lack the necessary sensitivity & correct insight into the severity of the trauma suffered, especially mental trauma. Dv victims are often on their own. After such trauma, the self esteem of a woman is shattered to a point where she feels incapable of leaving her husband to live a safe life on her own. Most often she spirals into depression & suicide, without a support.

Please sign this petition and share to help rescue a large number of dv victims by the setting up of Recovery Centers specifically for dv victims, with dedicated volunteers/staff to each dv victim.

2 supportive conditions for survival after leaving abusive partner (Courtesy:  internationally acclaimed ground breaking book 'Trauma & Recovery' by renowned psychiatrist Judith Lewis Herman):

1) Long term trustworthy ground support co-living with dv victim (6months to 2yrs)
2) Safe environment

Of these condition #1, is the primary reason, for failure of rescue.

Remember, sending her back to her own family that has deliberately discarded married daughter, is NOT a Viable option.

A repeat domestic violence victim of several years, can ONLY & ONLY be rescued when both above mentioned supportive conditions are present. This is so, because if dv victim leaves the abusive spouse, the trauma bonding (with abusive spouse) and complex trauma they suffer from, makes the victim lose sense of sanity, instantly shooting the victim down into deep depression that often spirals into suicide.

In the absence of the 2 supportive conditions, the NATURAL SURVIVAL INSTINCT (arising from spiralling down) forces victim to go back to abusive spouse, to continue surviving in a frozen state. Or they never leave, in the absence of the 2 conditions in case of repeat dv over several years.

Please sign this petition and share to help rescue a large number of dv victims by the setting up of Recovery Centers specifically for dv victims, with dedicated volunteers/staff to each dv victim.
