Why this petition matters

The racial disparities in the United States can no longer be ignored on a federal level. Out of 50 states, only 12 have minimum hours of required training in racial bias, and only 16 have minimum hours of de-escalation training.

We cannot continue to ignore the necessary training measures that must be put in place in order to prevent racial discrimination in police encounters. The absence of this training is contributing to the unnecessary murders of Black Americans by law enforcement officers.

We must demand a national standard for law enforcement training related to racial bias and excessive use of force. In the US, states have the authority on what training subjects are mandatory, as well as how many hours are required and how often the training must be repeated. Most states have little-to-no training in both racial issues and de-escalation tactics. The few states that do have these measures have inadequate hourly requirements and the training does not recur frequently enough.

  • All law enforcement officers serving in the United States should be required to attend annual racial bias and de-escalation training for a minimum of 100 hours, with recurrent training each year.
  • All public complaints against law enforcement officers should become public domain, to be released in a timely manner after the complaint is lodged. Lawsuits involving police departments should be made public, as these payouts cost millions of taxpayer dollars per year, and avoid the proper disciplinary action that should be taken against infringements.
  • Officers with racially charged infractions, associations with hate groups and domestic terror organizations, or repeated public complaints must be removed from the force immediately.

These requirements MUST be nationwide, to ensure that all US law enforcement personnel are held to the same standards that the American public deserve. Please sign this petition to show your support.
