Why this petition matters

Started by Brittany Stroeder

We believe that integrating addiction and harm reduction into the educational curriculum across Ontario will benefit youth, their families, and the surrounding communities. Reaching children and youth while they are still in the primary prevention stage is crucial to their wellbeing and mental health.

We cannot ignore the addiction crisis within Ontario. Adding primary prevention into the curriculum will increase the awareness of substance abuse, and will educate at-risk individuals to hopefully avoid the dependence on substances. We can’t promise that this will stop the crisis, but this will be a good approach to emphasize the realistic risks of drug and alcohol abuse.

Providing a mandatory addictions class in middle school would be beneficial to ensure children are properly educated on this topic before entering secondary school. We aim to minimize the effects of addiction in the early stages of adolescent's.
