Sack Mourinho & Restore Manchester United Football Club's Rich Attacking Traditions

Jose Mourinho is finished at the top end of football. He may win an odd domestic cup, but for what Manchester United demand – serious title challenges with regular attractive football; playing without fear against middling European teams (Sevilla), and cleverly finding a way through against the very best to earnestly challenge for the Champions League – Jose Mourinho in 2018 (and beyond) cannot deliver.

He sets the tone for everything which follows and we see on the pitch: the tactics, style of play, attitude, philosophy, culture etc. Before the recent contract extension (which increased his salary), Mourinho was on about £15m per season, while Guardiola is on around the same. Should you not expect two people paid nearly equally to produce thereabouts the same output? Yet Guardiola’s City are 16 points ahead.

We can respect teams who play better and win more, but only if Man Utd has an overriding attacking philosophy and purpose as well. Jose’s ‘not lose first’ means are not justifying the ends (out of the Carabao Cup, lose to Sevilla in the last 16 and 16 points away from Man City).

I think I speak for an increasingly large number of fans when I say: enough is enough! Jose Mourinho must leave Manchester United and replace with a progressive manager; one befitting of the honour of managing a club rooted in rich attacking traditions.

So, to defend the traditions of Manchester United Football Club and the legacy of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson – sign this petition asking the MUFC owners and Ed Woodward to do the same by sacking Jose Mourinho; and replace him with a coach or manager who can rival Guardiola, Pochettino, Klopp, Fonesca, or Tuchel for a whole season or tournament, not merely one match.
