It has come to my attention that multiple universities (inc Russel Groups) across England are offering a “no detriment” policy. In simple terms this means that you are unable to receive a grade lower than your current average mark this academic year. It does not prevent you from improving as it remains possible to score higher.

The general consensus when speaking to other students is that we are all really struggling to remain productive and focus. As a psychology student I believe universities have a responsibility to prioritise mental health. This approach to marking will help to ease the anxiety and pressure many students are currently facing. Various obstacles such as job loss, accessibility, home environment and health have emerged as a consequence of COVID-19 and the impact of this is undeniable. It makes sense to implement this policy as no doubt performance will be affected. Please give the students at MMU a safety net so they can complete undergraduate education to the best of their ability.
