Richard Higgins started this petition to Manchester City Council and

We ask that both Manchester and Trafford councils take the opportunity to increase safety for all by extending their proposed 20mph zone and introducing safe crossing on Upper Chorlton Road.

As part of the Manchester to Chorlton Cycle Way scheme a 20mph zone is to be created at the sharp bend before Upper Chorlton Road meets Seymour Grove.

The proposed zone begins after a busy row of shops, bars and Manley Park Primary School. This is a huge missed opportunity to calm traffic around these areas where parents and children frequently cross the rush hour traffic on their school runs.

The addition of a safe crossing place along this stretch also seems like an obvious, yet missed, opportunity. The nearest crossing points are currently some 500m apart so instead people take their chances with the cars.

Upper Chorlton Road is a long straight road and cars often race along this stretch at very high speeds. There is even a motorway crash barrier installed to help deal with the regular high speed crashes.

Let's take this opportunity to make a hazardous stretch of road calmer and safer for everybody.
