Linley Van Echten started this petition to Manawatu District Council. Horizons District Council

We need action on this dangerous one lane bridge on Colyton Road. This road is now a very busy main thoroughfare with very busy local traffic to Ashhurst,  Palmerston North and Feilding, traffic from the East Coast via  Saddle rd Ashhurst to Vinegar Hill north, cattle and sheep trucks, and logging trucks. It is a road used by many to get north or to Feilding or conversely to Hawkes Bay.

The visibility is extremely poor on both bridge approaches and there have been many regular accidents and near misses. There is nowhere to go if a driver doesn’t stop in time.  Traffic barrels down toward Colyton not realising they have to give way to oncoming traffic.  Being on a corner makes it more dangerous!

We need a 2 lane bridge urgently or a reformatting of the current bridge approaches eg change the sides of the bridge for giving way,  and  new much more noticeable bright warning signage. The shrubbery needs to be cut from the creek bed also.

Traffic on both sides now almost has to come to a stop in order to get visibility. Local residents slow right down but other road users do not.

I can say with absolute certainty that there will be a serious accident sooner rather than later based on the number of near misses happening on a regular almost daily basis.

This matter  is urgent, where else is there a “blind” one way bridge on a corner of a very busy road?! I believe this bridge is not even in council plans for improvement. I believe it should be - urgently! Please share, this will be presented to Council in 10 days time so support will be appreciated. Thank you
