For those of you who don’t have young children in public school the Manatee County School Board started the 2020-2021 school year banning children from the playground equipment. Instead they make them play next to it but not on it. Recess is the best part of a child’s school day. They look forward to it. 

I have a 6 year old in first grade who comes home daily disappointed with recess. It breaks my heart that our children are suffering so much. Socializing on the playground is essential to growth. 

It’s proven sunlight kills Covid. The CDC says Covid is not caught easily from surfaces. So why can’t my 6 year old swing on the swings? Why can’t he slide down a slide or climb? It doesn’t make sense why our kids are not allowed to be kids. 

I’m proposing the kid’s sanitize their hands before and after recess. Limit the amount of classes out at the same time. Divide the playground into sections and have them rotate around the equipment.

It’s time to let the children enjoy school again! They are already suffering enough with all the changes and wearing a mask all day. Please help me by signing this petition and get them back the very thing that brings them so much joy.
