The Fair Work Commission has just handed down a landmark decision that cuts the pay of hundreds of thousands of retail and hospitality workers in Australia
The public is outraged at the decision to eliminate double time, the Turnbull administration so out of touch it’s ridiculous.
Many of us employees earn just enough to cover weekly living expenses.
WILL IT AFFECT ME?
Aussie who rely on penalty rates generally earn a relatively low wage.
Australian Council of Trade Unions president Ged Kearney says the cuts are “not acceptable” and that the cuts would have dire consequences for almost 1 million Australian workers and for the economy.
The changes are a pay cut for the lowest paid people in the country.
It's disgusting that working class people were the ones who would suffer while pollies sit in their Mon-Fri job making decisions on something that will never affect them.
Most of those affected would now have to choose which of the basics the middle class take for granted they would go without — groceries, fuel, bus fare or car repayment.
