Over 100 academic experts have called on the Prime Minister to follow through on the Senate Inquiry recommendation and launch a Royal Commission into Violence Against People with Disability. Now it's our turn.

We write to you, Prime Minister and leader of the Opposition, to express our shared and deep concern at the recent Australian Government announcement that it does not intend to proceed with a Royal Commission into Violence Against People with Disability. This action is in direct contradiction to the recommendation of the 2015 Senate Community Affairs References Committee.

2 years on, this government has turned it's back on the violence that continues against people with disability. (Read here for more from the ABC on this abuse).

We ask that our political leaders take a break from using royal commissions against each other and instead use them for the good of all Australians. We ask that you empower a royal commission to address the shameful abuse and violence perpetrated against people with disability.

Stop the abuse, Prime Minister. Australia needs a Royal Commission into Violence Against People with Disability.
