Politician preferences provided before voting

Often during elections politicians will not declare their preferences until the day of voting. This creates issues in that your vote is taken and given to someone you may not want to represent you. As a voter you should know who your vote will go to. If the person you voted for doesn't get in i.e. if you vote and independent rather than a main party, then you may be happy if your votes go to a specific major party if the independent fails to gain enough votes. It should be your choice to vote in who you want, not a candidates to give your votes away. I would like to see all candidates declaring their preferences a minimum of six weeks before an election and for preferences to be shown on ballot papers.
