On Good Friday there was a riot on Manus Island by drunken soldiers or naval personnel after a soccer match. Several service providers and refugees were injured as a result and shots were fired into the detention centre. One week earlier a resident of the island - a child aged 10 years - approached a three residents and asked for food or money. The residents said that they had no money but had some fruit. They took the child into the centre. A guard asked why the child was there and they explained when the guard then allowed the child to go with them. They gave him some fruit and also some guards added some food as well. After this another guard escorted the child out of the centre. Peter Dutton claims that this incident attributed to the riot - a week later - and that actually the residents had ulterior motives for taking the child into the centre. The chief of the local police Inspector Yapu has denied these claims as also has a local politician Mr. Ronny Knight. The residents of the centre are outraged at Peter Dutton's claims and have demanded that the CCTV footage of the incident be released. it appears that for his own ends that Peter Dutton is attempting to manipulate these two separate incidents. The only answer that will reveal the truth of this occurrence is to release the CCTV footage for that day. If it confirms the events as depicted by the three residents then Peter Dutton must either apologise or resign - or even both.
