Keep Commonwealth Supported places for New Zealand Citizens

New Zealand and Australia have always had a positive relationship, but recently Australian Government has changed their minds in regards to New Zealand Citizens living in Australia and receiving Commonwealth supported places in Universities throughout Australia.
There has been a proposal to stop Commonwealth Supported places and compensate with the government now allowing those groups to access the Higher Education Loan Program, meaning they can defer their fees and pay back the loan once they start earning regular income.
This is unfair for many students such as myself, who do not own that much money, and as a young adult holding such a huge debt on my shoulders, when instead of saving for a future, family and a better life, there will be a huge debt hanging over many New Zealand citizens wishing to study in Universities across Australia.
Many students work hard in high school, and achieving grades to get into universities, and for many if this proposal comes through will be worth nothing anymore. The NZ PM said his foreign minister Gerry Brownlee would be "conveying our unhappiness" during an official visit to Australia this week. He was also upset about being blindsided by the universities announcement and raised the prospect of retaliation "by punishing Australians here".
Students would pay higher fees and universities would face a 2.5 per cent cut to their teaching payments in 2018 and 2019 under the Federal Government's plan. They would also force graduates to begin repaying their student loans once they reach an income level of $42,000 per year, down from the current threshold of about $55,000
I am currently studying in Grade 12 in Queensland hoping to reach my needed score to get into my course and fulfill my dream and goal. My father works long hours and full time to assist me with my future higher education, if this is changed I will no longer be able to attend university as the massive cost and debt will be too much for me and my family.
If you are a New Zealand Citizen living in Australia wanting to study at universities in Australia, please sign this petition as it will not only benefit me but many others in the same position as myself.
