Australia Day celebration for everyone; let's change the date.
Lets celebrate a day for being an Australian, for being a part of this wonderful nation, regardless of whether you are an Aboriginal Australian or Torres Strait Islander, a fifth generation Australian from European or British background or you are a new Australian from a war-torn part of the world.
Let's celebrate it with family and friends over a long weekend. Make the last Friday every January a public holiday to celebrate all we have in this great country.
Let's end the debate. The issue will not go away and a solution is so easy.
The 26th of January we celebrate the date of British colonisation of Australia. The idea of colonisation is now looked upon as part of our sorry past, certainly not something indigenous Australians would think was cause for celebration.
Malcolm Turnbull; we are Australian and proud of it. Let's change the timing of Australia Day to the last Friday of every January and celebrate being part of this great nation, not an occasion to look back at a heritage a few of us share and the original Australians resent.
