“Single-Use, Single-Abuse”
1 JULY 2018
The recent "single-use” plastic bag ban rolling out across Australia has not only affected your shopping experience, garbage disposal and wet clothes storage; but has had a detrimental effect on 1 in every 2 employees at supermarket giants, namely, Woolworths. This statistic coming from a survey of staff, after a female employee was strangled by an aggressive customer when he discovered the bags were no longer available at the self-serve checkout.
With 50% of staff reporting abuse as a result of this ban, it is irresponsible for Woolworths to continue to knowingly, place their employees at risk.
Although plastic is an enormous environmental problem, plastic shopping bags are merely the tip of the iceberg. Not only can you purchase rolls of 200 plastic bags from Woolworths and Coles, but you purchase fruit wrapped in plastic, meat wrapped in plastic, cereal, milk, juice, cleaning supplies, underwear, frozen foods, chip packets, bread, electronic equipment, toilet paper, baby products and even birthday cards, all wrapped in plastic. This list not including the thousands of plastic gloves, containers and sheets used as a compulsory measure every day; not just by Woolworths but by every branch of food service.
The Turnbull Government has recently unveiled a new project in which a 300-meter stretch of road, on Rayfield Avenue in Craigieburn, uses an additive that's made up of 530,000 plastic bags, more than 12,000 recycled printer cartridges and 168,000 glass bottles. This road surface holds 3 times the weight of normal roads, can withstand extreme temperatures with ease and costs exactly the same as the current method of road repair. Look outside your window, look at the streets you drive every day, With this much plastic able to be recycled into just 300 meters of road, within 5 years we could see our landfill crisis obliterated.
There is a much bigger picture here that is being overlooked and it is at this time we launch our mission to BRING BACK THE BAGS
