Better governance and accountability of Indigenous run housing companies.

Indigenous housing companies started in the 70's and have been unaccountable and no credibility or board governance training, such as project management or management training. 40 odd housing companies throughout Australia with zero funding and zero accountability, this is the lowest level and the next level is minimum funding and minimum accountability. The next level is total funding and total accountability. The Board is voted in by the tenants and community members and most times the voting gets cancelled until the former board has enough voters at the meeting to be able to be voted back in. These meetings get called at supper time and it makes it difficult for all tenants and members to be present. Outspoken people get threatened with eviction or zero repairs and maintenance on their houses.
These companies should operate as construction companies providing houses and training for the young and old. The communities, towns and cities will benefit by way of less dole dependency and less taxation going towards health and crime prevention, jails etc.
