Australians Against Immigration Ban
0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!
On January 27, 2017, United States President, Donald Trump, signed an executive order banning immigration from seven Muslim majority countries for 90-days. Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has thus far not denounced this ban. The world's community, from the highest ranks of politics to the youngest of its citizens, it outraged by this ban. The potential ramifications and precedent it sets has us all scared and feeling uncertainty about what the future holds. Australian political opposition leader, Bill Shorten, has called the ban "appalling" and called for its end. While we appreciate the strong words, Mr Shorten is not the elected official of the Australian people.
We, the Australian people, a country of nearly half a million Muslim citizens and residents, call for Prime Minister Turnbull to unequivocally denounce the immigration ban imposed by President Trump. While we understand that such a move may have political ramifications, it has become clear that the erratic and unpredictable nature of President Trump is potentially more damaging than any political fallout.
Australia is a country made up almost entirely of immigrants, much like the United States. We are a proud country which embraces our differences, multicultural communities, and moral standing in the world.
Mr Turnbull, you are the elected official of Australia, and Australia is outraged. You are our voice to the rest of the world and the spokesperson for your country. You cannot remain silent on this matter, and we will not sit idly by as your silence portrays Australia and its people as a cowardly and indifferent.
Make us proud, Mr Turnbull. Distance yourself, your people, and your country, from this outrageous act.
