In the context of the 11th World Hindi Conference (WHC), which is being organized on 18-20 August 2018 in Mauritius by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India in association with the Government of Mauritius to make the Hindi language popular globally including at the United Nations, we would like to sign this petition addressed to the UN Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres

From online source - https://www.languagemagazine.com - The Indian government is prepared to spend up to four billion rupees ($63 million) to make Hindi one of the official languages of the UN, according to India’s External Affairs Minister, Shrimati Sushma Swaraj.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha (India’s lower house of parliament), Mrs Swaraj said that the only hindrance to making Hindi an official UN language was procedural, not financial.

Hindi is India’s official language and spoken widely, with an estimated total of over half a billion speakers - 400 million mother-tongue speakers plus 130 million Indians who have learned it. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, there are over 30 million members of the Indian diaspora living overseas, of which it is estimated about 50% speak Hindi. Hindi is also an official language in Fiji, and versions of Hindi are also used in Mauritius, Trinidad and Tobago, Nepal and Suriname.

As Hindi speakers of the Indian Diaspora, we would be grateful to you the Secretary General of the United Nations, if you could please bring to agenda the recognition of Hindi to the United Nations as an official UN language
