Why this petition matters

Wildfires are often caused by human activity or a natural phenomenon, and they can happen at any time or anywhere. These fires can burn millions of acres of land at shockingly fast speeds, consuming everything in their paths. The destruction caused by wildfires in the United States has significantly increased in the last two decades. We are hitting the peak of a traditional fire season and already this year we have seen about 5 million acres of land and thousands of structures destroyed.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “The effects of smoke from wildfires can range from eye and respiratory tract irritation to more serious disorders, including reduced lung function, bronchitis, exacerbation of asthma and heart failure, and premature death. Children, pregnant women, and the elderly are especially vulnerable to smoke exposure.” Wildfires threaten lives directly, and wildfire smoke can affect us all. They spread air pollution not only nearby, but thousands of miles away—causing breathing difficulties in even healthy individuals.

As some are aware, property owners may try to burn debris without the proper safety measures in place and inadvertently cause wildfires/increase the severity of fires. Based on that, we plan on managing the forest byproducts, which would help eliminate the fuel for wildfires. Our goal is to reduce the risk of fire, and that often involves the removal of dead vegetation and damaged timber that often fuels fires. We plan to have monthly removals of these forest byproducts by removing them from plants and lower branches of tall trees. In turn, companies can mill the collected damaged timber into wood products that reduce carbon emissions, create necessary building materials out of wood that otherwise would be wasted, and eliminate fuel for future wildfires. It is a known fact that air pollution is affecting the air quality due to the smoke from the wildfires that can quickly spread in a matter of seconds. With the help of all of you and the people nationwide, we hope to convince the United States Forest Service for their involvement and assistance in our enforcement effort so we can help reduce wildfires. Wildfires have been affecting this community forever and helping make small changes can help improve the healing process for the Earth. With this help, we can help the effects of air pollution and carbon emission that can also help the change of climate change!
