Make YouTube enable ad-skipping post-reporting

The Issue

When I’m watching a video, I used to be able to click on an ad and it would allow me to skip to the video. I didn’t have to watch the entire ad, and the creators still received the credit for the ad being watched. But now, YouTube has removed that feature, and I find myself having to endure 90+ second ads, with some taking over 20 seconds before I can skip them.

This change in YouTube's ad policy has not only frustrated me but also many others who use the platform regularly. The ability to skip ads after reporting them was a feature that balanced the user experience with content creators' needs. Users could move on to their intended content without undue delay, knowing they’ve contributed to the creators' revenue stream.

Now, without this feature, we are coerced into spending more time on ads, which disrupts our viewing experience. This forces us into a longer engagement with ads, which seems unnecessary given the understanding that users would prefer to use their time enjoying actual content. While I appreciate that ads are crucial for supporting content creators, there needs to be a middle ground that respects users' time and convenience.

Restoring the ability to skip ads after reporting them would be a meaningful step in that direction. It would acknowledge the diverse needs of the community, ensuring both user satisfaction and creator support. Given that digital platforms thrive on user satisfaction and engagement, making this change would benefit all stakeholders involved.

This petition is a call to action for YouTube to reconsider their ad policy changes and reinstate the option for viewers to skip ads after reporting, thereby enhancing user satisfaction while maintaining revenue flows for content creators. Sign this petition if you believe in a user-friendly YouTube that values your viewing experience.
