Every night in Milwaukee there are hundreds to thousands of people out in the downtown area of Juneau Ave and Water St. They are in restaurants, bars, and on the street with their friends having fun. The area already has a large police presence and the roads have small wooden barricades. After the second shootout in the summer of 2022 directly in the middle of everyone, something needs to change. Clearly the wooden barricades do not work as intended, keeping violence out of this area. The only thing they stop are the law abiding citizens who now can not drive down the roads downtown. If the roads are already blocked off what difference would it make to have a stronger barricade? Fence the whole area in every night and have a police checkpoint on each end. This would provide a stronger boundary and help to stop the violence that can easily enter the area. It would be a minimal change to innocent people as they already can not drive down the street. Lock the whole area down. Do something to make this more safe.
