Why this petition matters

Started by Madeline Thomason

Housing at Woodbury University while overcrowded gave priority for out-of-state students as well as students with financial need. This year, they changed that. Every person who applies will be put in a lottery and given a number in the wait list. This starts with priority housing application, which returning and incoming new students can apply. Even if you are the first person to apply, you could be given the 100th slot for housing. Only 66 returning students will be guaranteed housing, all at random. Not only that, the Resident Life Official sent out an email to students regarding this two weeks before the application for priority housing is due. One week until it opens. This is extremely problematic for out of state students, students who came to the school on scholarships, students with housing grants, and students who have been disowned by their families or our facing homelessness if housing is not granted. Equality is treating everyone the same, EQUITY is giving everyone what they need to succeed. Students should not be stressed with the potential of being homeless, it will deter their grades and emotional and mental well-being. This is completely disrespectful of Woodbury.
