The government is due to announce that they will scrap the BBC TV license. 

This is good news and should come fast. After all, the BBC has had the luxury of license payers since its incarnation in 1922. Starting with a Wireless License,  which changed to Radio & Television license sometime later. At some point the Radio part was dropped from the title, but nonetheless we still pay for our BBC radio channels 

The BBC is not independent of the government,  they declare themselves impartial - this does not mean independent- leaving the BBC open to interference from government at any time.

Allow the BBC to advertise, use product placement strategy to finance BBC 1, 2, 3 & 4, the iPlayer as well as Radio. Don't forget, our licenses pay the extraordinarily large wages of our most cherished presenters, leaving little for good quality programmes.

Yes, the pandemic hit any filming for new and future series, but the quality and breadth of programming has diminished for a couple of decades. Production companies have already left for other channels,  most famously The Great British Bake Off.

The cost of living crisis is hitting hard and scrapping the licence will be one way to enable everyone to watch TV without fear of a hefty fine for not paying whilst also enabling people to use the extra £155 per year on something that they rely on. 

The BBC own freeview commercial channels Drama, Yesterday and Dave, so they know what advertising  can do. The BBC also has a share in the subscription only streaming service BritBox. If people want to watch without ads, let it be a VOLUNTARY premium service 

The BBC is long overdue for an overhaul: the shape of media is changing, television, radio and podcasts need extra money or advertising. The BBC use our license for
over paid presenters, biased reporting (impartial doesn’t mean independent or unbiased) and lower quality programming. An overhaul doesn’t mean all new, but it does mean it gives room for new fresh talent to write and produce, be mentored well.
