The mascot of Dewitt Middle School is currently a tiger, which honestly is quite generic and it does not inspire school spirit or define our student body. If you ask almost any Dewitt student what they think about tigers, they will probably respond that it makes us seem like basic furries. 

As well, our school colors, red and gold, are the same as the school colors of our local high school, IHS. With Shrek, we could branch out into more interasting colors and designs such as dark green with a light green shrek, light blue with a medium green Shrek, or endless other options.

Shrek on the other hand is an inspiring figure in the school and shows everyone that like onions, all people have layers.  He represents everything we love about our school, like perservering spirit and wit. 

This also leaves many more Shrek-related slogans and songs available to be used, for example the song All-Star by Smash Mouth, or a school slogan like "get out of our swamp!"
