Violence is happening in schools on a fatal scale now more than ever before. When police respond, as evident in the past and as set in precident by law (Castle Rock v Gonzalez), Law Enforcement are not required to protect and serve the children inside of the building during an active shooter situation. This petition is to propose a bill that would allow schools to be protected under law (42 U.S.C. § 1983). While not requiring officers to go in and combat the situation, it would hold a Law Enforcement Agency accountable by the people. This has nothing to do with gun control, or politics, or, sadly, even preventative measures. This is a petition to make our children a priority when they are away from home as mandated by state governments (compulsory attendence laws).
