Why this petition matters

This is regarding the ongoing issues on Sycamore Lane / Maes Yr Ysgol with parking due to the school parents. This Street faces issues daily with dangerous and illegally parked cars which is causing a great deal of stress and concern for all residents who live here.

As you are aware prior to this housing estate being built five years ago there was a field where no parking was available, so my question is why now is there such an issue?

The answer simply is convenience and laziness. This is unfortunately the reality, where Parents of the school students will happily endanger the residents of the street, including Children, people with disabilities and Animals.

In the short time this estate has been built, Parking due to the school has always been an issue and has and will continue to cause accidents and a risk to life until some action is taken.

Double parking is a daily occurrence, forcing people with wheelchairs and prams to walk onto the road. Parents parking over driveways, and on several occasions parking in someone’s private driveway, and from my personal experience, someone parking on my private side and front garden.

It has been expressed by several residents that when they politely ask these people who have parked across driveways or on private land to move they are confronted by hostility and violence, and often met with the response of ‘You shouldn’t have bought a house by a school’.

During the week of 6th June 2022 alone 2 vehicles were hit by parents of the school, 1 van was damaged and another car written off. Both vehicles were parked sensibly. How many more cars have been, and will continue to be hit by reckless driving due to the ongoing parking issue?

The residents of the street, myself included have had enough. A resident of the street their pet cat hit by a car during the school run and this is only a matter of time before it  is a child.

Endless calls to the school and council have been made by multiple residents and nothing is done. This must stop before a serious accident happens.
