Why this petition matters

Started by Paul Martin

I have been an animal lover and citizen of Florida all my life. In Florida, the Sandhill Crane is a unique protected species of bird that I believe is very representative of the attraction given off by the state of Florida. After all, they liked it here so much that they decided not to migrate back to the sand hills! In my opinion, it would be nice to take a break from the bleak political landscape of today and take a moment to make Florida even more unique than it already is by petitioning a change of the state bird, the mockingbird (which is also the state bird in several other places) to the Sandhill Crane (which has yet to be adopted as a symbol of any state). If we lose this petition, it will not have a huge effect on our lives, nor will it if we win. I just believe that the symbols used by the state of Florida could certainly be more individual than they are, and a petition for something interesting and nice to think about could be a relief to not only those signing petitions, but to the legislators who will review the petition as well. Everyone deserves a break from the monotony, and every signature counts. Thanks in advance for your support!
