Make rail travel free for children up to 11 in London
This petition made change with 10 supporters!
At the moment, travel within London is free for under 11's on buses, tube trains and London Overground services. However, child fares are charged for anybody over the age of 5 on trains.
This means that for a family of 4 wanting to visit the Science Museum from Zone 5, the total cost is £37.60. If you just use tube and buses, it costs just £24. This is a ludicrous increase of more than 50%, just for living in South London.
This is unfair - the SWT Franchise is up for renewal now, and we demand that any replacement franchise bid includes a clause stating that child fares should be aligned with the rest of the transport network.
