Make PHOTO RADAR CAMERAS more visible! Public safety first and the cash cow second!

Make PHOTO RADAR CAMERAS more visible! Public safety first and the cash cow second!
Why this petition matters
We all know photo radar is mostly used as a cash cow for municipalities but they can have more of an effect for safety. Major intersections can become more dangerous when they are being approached at high speeds. That is why those intersections have photo radar/red light cameras.
The problem is no one can see those cameras until it's too late!!!
The obvious solution is to make all photo radar/red light cameras highly visible and not hide them behind trees, blend them in with light poles and other signs.
This petition is to make the roads of Edmonton and all of Alberta safer by making these cameras more visible by painting them the same yellow color as road signs and make them slightly reflective at night.
This will make them more in tune with the guidelines for which they are based on.
These guidelines are based on 4 guiding principles in Alberta:
Guiding Principles For Photo Radar
- Transportation safety, not revenue generation, must be the objective of Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE) programs in the province.
- Police services, in collaboration with municipalities, are responsible to ensure ATE programs are used to improve traffic safety outcomes.
- Ongoing evaluation of ATE programs will ensure they improve traffic safety outcomes.
- Public transparency is paramount for the success of photo radar programs.
When you can actually see the cameras beforehand you will actually slow down. It doesn't get more transparent than that!
