Why this petition matters

I paid £2.07.9 per litre for my fuel today. Which means £10 barely gave me enough fuel to go and pick my daughter up. I’m sure I paid £1.95.9 per litre last week, which was completely criminal then. The government cut the fuel tax by 5p a litre, but that made no difference because fuel stations just kept the overall prices the same, so they just made 5p more profit per litre. I’m asking the government to cut the tax again, by an amount that makes a noticeable difference to the poorest people in this country, and also make it law that fuel stations cut their overall prices by the same amount. Why should they make more profit, when the whole  reason for this was to ease the average persons struggle to get where they need to go? And while I’m at it, where does it say the big rich oil companies have to make the same or bigger profits as previous years? E.g. if BP Shell and Esso each made say 1 million profit last year, now that things are this unmanageable for the average person, why can’t they settle for half a million profit each this year, just to ease the burden on the little people?

Please government, you made it law not to see loved ones during the height of Covid. Surely you can make it law for fuel stations to lower their prices by the same amount that you cut the tax. But cut the tax again too please, at least so that single parents still have some money to spend on their children after they have travelled to pick them up.
