Make Parental Alienation Illegal in the UK with Legal Penalties
The Issue
Parental alienation, an act where one parent deliberately disrupts the relationship of their child with the other parent, is a significant issue in the UK. It not only damages the emotional and psychological wellbeing of the alienated parent but also has profound effects on the children involved. An increasing number of people are suffering, and in extreme cases, even losing their lives due to the anguish caused by being barred from their children without any valid reason. It’s even more disheartening when the perpetrators exploit the legal system to their advantage, further victimising the alienated parent.
A study by Baker and Darnall (2006) states that children who are victims of parental alienation can experience long-term consequences such as depression, low self esteem, and decreased life satisfaction. The UK needs strong legal action against parental alienation to protect the rights of both parents and children. We urge that it be made illegal, punishable by law with imprisonment or substantial fines.
This legislation will ensure that every child in the UK maintains a healthy and loving relationship with both parents, provided it is safe and in their best interest. It will hold accountable those who manipulate the legal system for their personal gains, ultimately undermining the child’s rights and causing harm to the other parent. It's time the UK takes bold steps towards the eradication of parental alienation, ensuring the welfare of every family, and making the best interest of the child a priority. Please, sign this petition to fight for these needed changes.
