SCUSD Transparency Advocates started this petition to Sacramento City Teachers Association and

Students in Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) started school on Thursday with a temporary schedule for two short days. A schedule and details of distance learning for the rest of the term have yet to be agreed to by SCUSD and the Sacramento City Teachers Association (SCTA). A mediator has been assigned and the parties were scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 4.

Community members, including parents and students, have provided significant input on what they would like to see in a distance learning plan. Unfortunately, the parties remain far apart on key issues and members of the community have been left in the dark. This is because community members are not represented in the bargaining and are barred from witnessing what is taking place behind virtual doors.

It is past time that we, the undersigned parents and greater community members, see firsthand who is holding up progress in reaching a compromise on a distance learning plan that will provide for excellent education for all children in the district. We ask that if a mediated deal has not been reached by noon on Sunday, September 6, that parents of SCUSD students as well as community members be allowed to watch any subsequent negotiations via live webcast and that the negotiations be archived for later viewing.
