Why this petition matters

Started by Sabryna Jones

Dress codes are supposed to apply to all students, not just students with a certain body type or gender identity. MRHS has many examples of dress code only being applied to women, specifically women with a certain body type. One example of this is the spirit day “ Opposite Day”. The boys were wearing sports bras and short skirts etc. It is concerning that boys could go to the extreme with how they dress but woman can’t wear something that shows their midriff.
This especially affects curvier woman. Two girls could wear the exact same shirt and only one would be reprimanded. The dress code has become something that the teachers and administrators can pick and choose that they want to enforce based on their own opinion on what is “ appropriate “ or not .
Our bodies are not a secret nor a distraction and should not be treated as such.
