Make Moonta Bay North beach car and motorbike free from the jetty to the bird sanctuary
Why this petition matters
Moonta Bay north beach is a beautiful part of Yorke Peninsula. This beach has a diverse ecosystem of birds, crabs, fish, dunes, shellfish, worms and shells. It is alive as much under the sand as above. It supports the sand dunes which are an important part of the beach. The creatures under the sand are a good source of food for the birds and crabs.
Currently 4WD vehicles and motorbikes can drive up and down the beach destroying the plants of the sand dunes, the nesting sites of birds and crushing the life out of the creatures living in the sand.
All access to this beach needs to be blocked and these vehicles banned to allow this beach to survive intact and continue to be an eco-tourist attraction for the Copper Coast.
The Copper Coast Council need to block off the road to the bird sanctuary, erect visible signage to ban these vehicles and promote the beach as a waking beach.
This simple change will preserve this ecosystem that is currently being damaged and destroyed by these heavy and destructive vehicles.
