Make Massachusetts Coal Free by 2020
Have a heart, Massachusetts. Let's plan ahead for our communities and make Massachusetts coal-free by 2020.
Coal-fired power is failing us: harming our health, devastating our environment, and putting the economic future of our communities at risk. Mothers and children, the elderly, and those with respiratory disease are particularly vulnerable to toxic emissions, and with coal's financial viability waning, local jobs and revenues are vanishing.
Governor Patrick and the state legislature can take a leadership role by committing to phase out coal-fired power by 2020, advancing energy efficiency and renewable energy, and planning to protect our communities and workers.
Massachusetts should fully implement the Global Warming Solutions Act and mandate a just transition to our clean energy future.
- Massachusetts Governor
Thank you for making Massachusetts a national leader by creating unrivaled energy efficiency programs, strong emissions caps, and incentives for renewable energy. Today, we call upon you to build on what we've accomplished: transition us away from harmful, unviable power sources and make Massachusetts Coal Free by 2020.
Our state can continue its leadership role by committing to phase out coal-fired power by 2020, further advancing energy efficiency and renewable energy, and planning for community and worker transition.
Massachusetts should fully implement the Global Warming Solutions Act by enacting regulations that establish a declining annual aggregate emissions limit. We call on our Governor and Legislators to support An Act Relative to a Clean Energy Commonwealth, which would mandate thoughtful power transition.
We must make Massachusetts coal-free by 2020. Let's plan ahead for our communities.
