Covid-19, influenza and other respiratory illnesses are on the rise. Our teachers and students are in crowded classrooms every school day and wearing masks can help limit the spread of these diseases. Many of us have elderly or immune-compromised family members that need protection from Covid-19 and influenza. 
Many medical professionals and epidemiologists are calling for mandatory mask wearing, but the Ministry of Education says schools know their communities best. However, it seems schools are reluctant to make wearing masks compulsory. They do however make other things mandatory like sunhats and uniforms, and have rules about jewellery and hair styles- even though there is no legislation or government mandate for this.
