Stop selling fur items

Back in the mid 90's when there was uproar over the use of real fur a huge supermodel campaign which sparked awareness amongst society lead to a decrease in sales and the number of shops selling fur, as people were not interested. However recently there has been a dramatic increase in sales of fur items, whether this be coats or fur trim on boots, gloves or scarves. The reason for this? Fashion. As a result more and more shops on the High Street are selling fur.
It is illegal for companies to purchase animals for their fur within the UK, so companies get around this by purchasing fur from other countries were there are fur farms. Animals are bred and kept captive in small wire crates until they are drowned or analy electrocuted after which they are then skinned, a process usually done whilst the animal remains alive. In some very unfortunate cases, the animal can remain alive for some time when their fur has been stripped from their body.
Animals such as mink, fox, rabbit, cat and dog are killed in this way for their fur. With the increased quality in faux fur, it really is not necessary to wear real fur.
With 10 shops in Leigh on Sea, Essex still refusing to stop selling fur, despite some local petitions, we need your help. Please help us by signing the petition if you live in the Essex area and are against the fur trade. Make Leigh fur free! Please help us by signing and sharing the petition on facebook or twitter.
