Require ALL police in Oregon have body cams that film during ANY interaction with persons

Data shows that currently in many states across America, the number of civilians being killed by police is increasing. Officers are gaining more fire power and are not receiving the training they need to also gain experience and insight into deescalating situations in which deadly force might not be necessary. To add to the unrest the public feels, we are seeing more and more situations where officers are shooting civilians, and many times there are holes in footage or no footage at all. This causes a great deal of distrust to the public when it comes to officers and their handling of people in distress.
Currently, there are several counties across Oregon that do not have body cameras for their officers, or have body cameras that only record in small increments. Many have the funding for such things, and spend years trying to find the cheapest vendor possible to get their equipment up and running. Meanwhile, people are being killed by those who are sworn to protect and serve them. There is no excuse for such hold ups! Families and friends of those killed by officers are tired of hearing that the camera just happened to “not be rolling” during an incident where police transparency is crucial. We will no longer stand for being left in the dark by those we are supposed to entrust with our safety, and the safety of our loved ones.
It is time to act and make it mandatory that officers in every major city across America, as well as the smaller ones who have the appropriate funding, have body cameras that record during EVERY contact an officer makes with another person. Police officers owe their communities honesty and transparency. It is time that we quit asking, and start requiring police accountability.
