May 10, 2011 — Josie Carothers, whose grandmother invented Girl Scout cookies, leaving a comment on the Girl Scouts Facebook wall last week:
"I am the granddaughter of the inventor of Girl Scout cookies. She was Ethel Jennings Newton. She cared deeply about the fate of societies around the world. As her granddaughter, I am asking the Girl Scouts to urge the Roundtable to refuse to buy palm oil from sources which are taking land from local people without their consent, and which are clearing forests to set up plantations. Roundtable members are accelerating climate change by these practices. My grandmother would be ashamed."
