London boasts of being one of the most diversely equal cities in the UK. Yet this equality isn’t visible in the streets that surround us.

This International Women’s Day, we’re petitioning to make London more equal, and that starts with the streets we walk, cycle and drive on every day.

All but one gendered street names in Soho are masculine – Rupert Street, Peter Street, Dean Street, etc. – and we want to do something about it. This is why we’re petitioning to change some of the street signs in the city that we call home to make them an even 50/50 split.

We’re starting with our home and creative neighbourhood, Soho, but this inequality is visible all across the capital with less than 30 percent of street names in London named after women.

In 2017, Sadiq Khan launched the #BehindEveryGreatCity gender equality campaign. We’ve come a long way, but it’s time this equality we strive for and celebrate is reflected in the environment around us.

How can we boast of equality when it remains invisible in the paths we follow every day?

Marian Wright Edelman famously once said 'you can't be what you can't see', and this couldn’t be more relevant in our lives today. Help us make equality more visible in the streets we walk on and encourage a more equal future for our home, our London.

London deserves to be #eachforequal.
