Sally Antill started this petition to UK Department for Transport and

Motorway services have, by law, to provide rest areas and toilet facilities for drivers.

Drinking water taps should also be provided, free of charge, to enable refilling ones own water containers.  This could have a huge impact on the use of single-use plastic bottles, as well as contributing to road safety.

Whilst many coffee franchises will refill your own water bottle if you are buying a coffee, not all drivers are able to get into the concessions areas (dog or children in car, for instance, which can’t be left at all or for more than a few moments), and many people will be put off by having to queue and feeling they have to buy something else when all they really want is some fresh drinking water.

Many more people will pick up the bottled waters, in the single use plastic bottles, because it is not clear how they could do otherwise.

And some drivers will simply not stop, even though they could do with a break and some fresh water to drink, because they are not able to leave their dog and or children alone in the car for long enough to navigate to the coffee place, queue, and get their water container refilled.

If drinking water taps were available, preferably outside the building, everyone could get fresh water to drink, using their own container. This could have a huge impact on the use of single-use plastic bottles, as well as contributing to road safety.
