Every year 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted in the world. When food decomposes in a landfill, the carbon is released into the atmosphere. This is one of the major contributors to climate change, and there is one simple solution. Composting puts all of that food into the ground, and instead of contributing to climate change, it makes healthy soil with lots of nutrients that will actually act as a carbon sink. The only reason that people aren't doing this is that it is expensive, it costs $29.25 quarterly, and a lot of people can't afford that. We might be able to change that in Denver if enough people sign this petition, we can send it to the Hazardous Materials and Waste Management in Colorado.
